It was fantastic news that Sherry had won an award and was the recipient of a GDC Gold Award for her work ‘Listen to Her’.

A central aim of ‘Art & Heritage’ has been to explore the possibilities of using public art to open up new conversations and generate an awareness of past traditions, customs and heritage. The project received seed funding from the British Council’s ‘Connections through Culture’ programme, to create dialogues between the UK and China to allow artists and creatives to learn from each other and exchange ideas.

One of the artists involved is Xiaoyu XIONG (Sherry). Her work uses design, installation and technology to include the public as much as possible in the experiences that she creates.

Sherry produced a body of work titled ‘Listen to Her’ that was partly made in the historic town of Chongwu and later concluded in the studio. The work was submitted for an international GDC Design Award. This is a bi-annual event that has been running since 1992:

‘Attracting designers from all over the world, GDC developed from “a top design award among Chinese designers” to “one of the most important global design awards”

‘Listen to Her’ was part of the ‘Interactive design’ category with 4 awards: Grand Prize; Gold; Silver and Bronze with prizes awarded to each category.

It was fantastic news to receive that Sherry had won an award and was the recipient of a GDC Gold Award for ‘Listen to Her’. The presentation ceremony took place on Sat 11th Dec 2021 in Shenzhen.

Congratulations to  Sherry on your award and thank you for the hard work that you have put into the project. As mentioned, the project has been carried out as a group and all have played a part in researching, planning, visiting sites and making work.
